Dr. Julia M. Pillsbury, DO, FAAP, FACOP

Pediatrician & Adolescent Medicine Specialist

Having worked in the medical field for over 5 decades, Dr. Pillsbury has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience as an Osteopathic Medicine Specialist. First finding an interest in Medicine after fulfilling the role of a Registered Nurse, Dr. Pillsbury pursued her career further, embarking on a role in Emergency Medicine based in Philadelphia for nine years. The focus of her career after this was spent in the field as a Pediatrician. Alongside her medical endeavors, Dr. Pillsbury spent 3 years in the US Army as a reservist and 3 years of active duty. Subsequently, she separated from the US Army as a Captain, then transferred into the US Air Force where she served as Chief of Adolescent Medicine and eventually Chief of Pediatrics and separated from there as a Major.

Gaining notable success academically, Dr. Pillsbury was proud to receive an Associate of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, both from Gwynedd Mercy University. Later in her career, she returned to her academic studies at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, this time achieving her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Following on from this, the esteemed doctor earned the opportunity to complete her residency in Pediatrics at the Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center. Dr. Pillsbury is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatrics.

Currently, Dr. Pillsbury works at Kids and Teens Pediatrics, which is located in Dover, DE.  Dr. Pillsbury founded the Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, P.A. in 1991 which she sold to Kids & Teens Pediatrics in 2018.The center provides a range of highly personalized medical services to newborns, toddlers, children, and adolescents. Patients are treated for a variety of conditions including autism, eating disorders, bullying-related symptoms, ADHD, and other attention and mood disorders. Dr. Pillsbury has particular expertise in treating young patients with special needs such as ADHD, Asthma, and Neuromuscular Issues.

In a continuous effort to broaden her knowledge and status, Dr. Pillsbury remains affiliated with numerous professional bodies. She is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatrics. In Addition, she is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American Medical Association and the Medical Society of Delaware. She has served on several committees of the American Medical Association: The Practice Expense Advisory Committee, and The RUC and the CPT editorial Advisory Committee as well. 

Keen to give back to her community, Dr. Pillsbury is highly regarded for her volunteering efforts, particularly for her desire to make a difference in anti-sex trafficking groups as well as taking an active role in health care reform.  In addition, Dr. Pillsbury was recently elected to the City of Dover Council. She is representing District 1.

Dr. Pillsbury has always remained determined to enhance her patient’s quality of life through the provision of high quality, individualized care. She believes that this approach, alongside her unwavering passion has ensured that their patients always gain the optimal results whilst under her care. 

Reflecting on her many successes, Dr. Pillsbury pays tribute to Elizabeth Craven, M.D., and Jane Richter, as well to her late mother, Julia M. Reddy, R.N..

When not busy working, Dr. Pillsbury enjoys spending quality time with her family; her husband, two children and her grandchildren.
